General Terms:
  1. 1. The 400m obstacle challenge race (OCR) shall be held from 6 - 10/3/2025 between 9:00 pm to 1:30am.
  2. 2. The (OCR) is a timed obstacle race where athletes run and overcome obstacles. Athletes should finish the race as fast as possible. Time cap is 5 minutes.
  3. 3. UAE Nationals and residents shall be allowed to participate in the race. (EID required)
  4. 4. The minimum age of participation is 16 years old. If you are aged 16 -17 your guardian must sign your waiver and register you for the event.
  5. 5. It is the participant's responsibility to be medically fit, have health insurance, and they will sign a personal declaration and waiver to that effect.
  6. 6. The organizer or race officials reserve the right to modify, amend or take any action that will regulate the race according to the committee’s desire, including amendments to the rules, obstacles & schedule.
NAS 2025 Obstacle Challenge
Special Terms:
  • 1. Each participant is permitted to participate one time during the qualifying days.
  • 2. An athlete must wear appropriate sports gear (covered torso) including closed sports shoes, failure to do so will result in the individual not being allowed on the course.
  • 3. An athlete must always obey the race rules and marshals’ instructions, failure to do so will result in disqualification from the competition.
  • 4. There will be timing mat checkpoints at the start and finish line. Failure to pass through a checkpoint will result in disqualification from the race.
  • 5. If an athlete chooses to skip an obstacle for any reason, they will be disqualified.
  • 6. Athletes need to attempt the obstacle two times before they can consider the obstacle a failure. Failure to complete the obstacle/section of the obstacle (*where specified as a section) will result in a time penalty.
  • 7. If an athlete is caught cheating in any way, shape, or form, they will be disqualified from the race.
  • 8. The responsibility of remaining on the course rests with the athlete. Any athlete who presents a danger to themselves or others may be removed from the race.
  • 9. Athletes should ensure their race number is visible at all times, and should not intentionally cover it. Special circumstances may be allowed at the discretion of the Race officials, e.g., headband falling off.
Race Categories:
  • 1. Open Category / Men: All UAE locals and residents living in the country shall be allowed to participate in this category.
  • 2. Open Category / Women: All female UAE Nationals and residents living in the country shall be allowed to participate in this category.
  • 3. Race Finals / Men & Women: The Top 20 Men & top 20 women who have the fastest times from the qualifying days will participate in the final day for the prize.
Race rules:
  • 1. The (OCR) is a 400m running track consisting of a start line, Eleven (10/11) obstacles and a finish line.
  • 2. The course has a (2) lane, only two Athletes will race at a time.
  • 3. The race starts by signal from officials.
  • 4. The athlete shall run, walk, crawl, slither, scramble, or otherwise propel themselves across, under, over or through the surface.
  • 5. Certain obstacles will require specific actions/methods in order to complete the obstacle.
  • 6. An athlete will be judged as "finished," the moment they cross the finish line.
  • 7. An athlete failing an obstacle may attempt the obstacle a second time and no more.
  • 8. An athlete who fails to complete an obstacle on the second attempt will be given a time penalty.
  • 9. Blocking another athlete intentionally will result in disqualification.
  • 10. Athletes will remain in their designated lane (lane 1 or lane 2) for the duration of the race and may not enter or cross into the other athlete’s lane, this will result in disqualification (DQ).
Course format:

This list of obstacles may change or may vary in order, rules, and criteria may change for safety or logistics or upon decision of race officials before or on the race day.

1 Balance Wall
  • Run across the balance walls.
  • Jump to the second section of the balance wall.
  • You should start at the beginning of the obstacle.
  • Obstacle is only considered complete once you reach the end of the obstacle.
  • If you fall off you need to start the obstacle from the beginning.
  • Athletes should refrain from engaging in rough play or intentionally trying to dislodge others.
  • Skipping the obstacle.
  • Failing to attempt the obstacle twice.
  • Avoid attempting any dangerous maneuvers or stunts that could lead to injuries.
2 Elevating Rings
  • Athletes need to cross the obstacle using the hanging rings.
  • You should start at the beginning of the obstacle, the first ring.
  • Obstacle is only considered complete once you reach the end of the obstacle, last ring.
  • If you fall off you need to start the obstacle from the beginning.
  • You may skip rings if you are able to, except for the first and last ring.
  • Any part of the body contacts the ground or support padding.
  • Use of any support structure or padding for assistance.
  • Crossing into the other lane.
3 High Wall
  • Athletes need to jump up and traverse the wall, using only the bar or platform.
  • To complete the obstacle Athletes should go over the obstacle and not around it.
  • Using side supports.
  • Climbing/coming off the sides of the obstacle.
4 Sled/Tank Push
  • Athletes need to push the tank/sled for a specified and marked distance.
  • The tank/sled should start behind the line.
  • The tank/sled should completely cross over the line for the obstacle to be completed.
  • Maintain control to prevent injuries.
  • Lifting of the wheels of the tank is forbidden.
  • The sled or tank should remain with all points of contact on the ground for the entire push.
5 Swing
  • Athletes should use the rope to swing from the start of the obstacle to the end.
  • The obstacle would only be considered complete once the participant reaches the end point of the obstacle.
  • Touching the ground or fall protection before reaching the end of the obstacle will require the participant to restart the obstacle.
  • Avoid attempting any dangerous maneuvers.
  • Touching the ground/fall protection before reaching the end of the obstacle.
6 Rope Pegs
  • Athletes will need to use the rope to cross the pegs from one side of the obstacle to the other.
  • Failure to use the rope will result in restarting the obstacle.
  • Athletes need to hook the rope over every peg from the beginning to the end for the obstacle to be considered complete.
  • Any part of the body contacts the ground or support.
  • Use of any support structure or padding for assistance.
7 Pyramid
  • Run over structure from one side to the other.
  • Obstacle completion is when the athlete jumps off the end of the structure.
  • Use of any support structure or padding for assistance.
8 Hurdle
  • Athletes are required to climb over the rotating hurdle.
  • Completion of the obstacle will require the athletes to get their entire body over the top of the hurdle without touching the sides or support structures.
  • Use of any support structure or padding for assistance.
9 Atlas Lift & Seesaw
  • Approaching the atlas obstacle requires caution. Make sure to use proper lifting techniques by bending at the knees and hips while keeping your back straight.
  • The athlete needs to lift the atlas ball and drop it inside the box to raise the seesaw.
  • Athletes then need to run up the seesaw.
  • Falling off the seesaw would require the athlete to return to the bottom of the seesaw and run up again.
  • Completion of the obstacle will be once the participant reaches the end of the following obstacle.
  • Do not attempt any dangerous maneuvers with the weight that could lead to injuries.
10 Block Climber
  • This obstacle will be split into 3 sections.
  • Athletes will need to cross from the beginning of the obstacle to the end of the obstacle using the different grips and hanging grips.
  • Section 1 will start at the top of the previous obstacle Seesaw. Failure of section 1 will require athletes to start at the bottom of the seesaw again.
  • Section 2 will start once section 1 is completed. Athletes will need to complete the entire hanging grip using only their hands and have to go all the way to the bottom of the hanging section and all the way back to the top on the other side.
  • Section 3 will start once section 2 is completed. Athletes will need to cross the last section from the beginning to the end. The end of the section will be considered the last grip.
  • If athletes fall off or touch the ground in a section, they will need to start that section again.
  • Each section will be considered for the time penalty if failure to complete after the second attempt of that section.
  • Touching the ground or using the support structures.
11 Ramp
  • Athletes need to run up and over the ramp.
  • Completion of the obstacle is once the athletes jump off the back of the obstacle.
  • Do not attempt any dangerous maneuvers when jumping off the back of the obstacle.
Location and Timing of the Races:
  • 1. The Race will be held in NAS Sports Complex from 9 pm onwards, and 6 athletes will go every 20 minutes, with only 2 starting and running at any given time.
  • 2. During registration, athletes will be allocated a time which will designate their exact starting time.
  • 3. Athletes must arrive 1 hour before their time to check in and prepare.
  • 4. Athletes will only be allowed to enter the course at their designated time.
Results and Awards:
  • 1. The Top 20 Fastest times will proceed to the final day.
  • 2. The winners of the race will be calculated based on the fastest time around the course on the final day.
  • 3. On the last day of the competition, the best 3 times will be crowned at the total level of the competition and awarded (gold, silver, and bronze) medals.
  • 4. The ceremony will be held at NAS Sports Complex on a date to be confirmed.
Registration:
  • 1. Registration opens on 25/2/2025 to 6/3/2025 12am or once the event has reached capacity.
  • 2. The organizer reserves the right to move an athlete heat at any time and will always notify the participant of such action.
  • 3. All timing chips will be allocated when an athlete arrives on site at the event for race day.
  • 4. An athlete will be solely responsible for ensuring they complete the course with the designated timing chip. If they lose the chip, their time will not be registered and will not be eligible for any placings or prizes in the competition.
  • 5. For any inquiries regarding registration with the challenge race:
Appeal Procedure:
  • 1. Any appeal to the results shall be submitted in writing to the Race Director no later than 2 hours after the incident has occurred.
  • 2. Appeals shall not be accepted unless they are presented with an amount of AED500 cash, which will be refunded in case of the appeal being upheld. In the case the appeal is found to have no grounds or to be incorrect, the AED500 fee will not be refunded.
  • 3. The Technical Committee alone shall be entitled to interpret and explain the regulations and laws and take the appropriate decisions, and in all cases, these decisions shall be final.
